General Lecture on Practical Qualitative Research Skills - NVIVO workshop
The English Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) successfully hosted a two-part online general lecture titled “Practical Qualitative Research Skills” as part of its Qualitative Analysis course. The sessions, held via Zoom on May 19 and 26, 2025, were attended by nearly 200 students from the 2023 cohort.
The event featured two seasoned speakers, Sutrisno, S.Pd., M.Pd. and Yanuar Hery Murtianto, S.Pd., M.Pd., who brought practical expertise to help students improve their research proposal writing and analysis skills.
In Part 1 (19 May), Sutrisno introduced students to qualitative research workflows using NVivo—from managing sources, transcribing, to coding data. Yanuar followed with a session on Systematic Mapping Study (SMS) using Biblioshiny, demonstrating how to extract and visualize research trends from Scopus metadata.
In Part 2 (26 May), Yanuar focused on conducting Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR) using NVivo, guiding students through document filtering, content analysis, and identifying emerging research themes. Sutrisno concluded the series with advanced NVivo usage, covering data visualization, model building, and ensuring research validity and reliability.
Students participated enthusiastically, raising questions and discussing challenges in thesis proposal development. The sessions provided not just theoretical insight but also hands-on practice with research tools, aligning academic learning with real-world skills.
The event was organized under the leadership of Dr. Him’mawan Adi Nugroho, M.Pd., with Silfia Asning Tias, Ph.D., as the chief coordinator. The initiative reflects UNESA’s commitment to equipping future educators with strong research capabilities grounded in current academic standards and technology.
