One Day with New Students of Cohort 2026

A total of 248 new students of the Undergraduate English Education Study Program, Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), took part in One Day with New Students, an introductory and orientation event held on Friday morning, 28 August 2026.

The event was designed to welcome the 2026 cohort and provide them with essential information and practical insights as they begin their academic journey in the English Education Study Program. More than simply an introductory gathering, the event provided an opportunity for the new students to become familiar with the academic environment, lecturers, and expectations of university life.

 

One of the main sessions featured a briefing by the Head of the English Education Study Program, Dr. Him'mawan Adi Nugroho. In his session, he shared practical tips and strategies for becoming successful university students. The students were encouraged to develop positive academic habits, take responsibility for their own learning, manage their time effectively, and actively participate in academic and non-academic activities.

 

The session also highlighted the importance of adapting to university life. As university students, the freshmen are expected not only to achieve good academic results but also to develop independence, communication skills, critical thinking, and a strong sense of responsibility.

 

Following the briefing, the event continued with a lecturer introduction session. The new students had the opportunity to get to know the lecturers in the English Education Study Program, allowing them to become more familiar with the academic community they will be part of throughout their undergraduate studies.

 

The event concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session. The students were given the freedom to ask anything they wanted to know about studying in the program, academic life, learning activities, lecturers, and other aspects of being an English Education student at UNESA.

 

The open Q&A created an informal and interactive atmosphere. Rather than simply receiving information, the new students were encouraged to voice their curiosity, concerns, and expectations as they begin their university journey.

 

 

With 248 new students participating, One Day with New Students marked an important first step in building a sense of belonging and connection between the 2026 cohort and the English Education Study Program.

 

Through this activity, the new students were expected to start their university life with a clearer understanding of the program, greater confidence, and stronger motivation to grow as successful learners and future English teachers.
